Jacobs name changed to Israel

Jacob means heel grasper or supplanter

Israel was a spiritual name symbolizing Jacobs spiritual victory over his past sin of deception.  The man Jacob was now a Spiritual Israel.

The same name is being applied to one Man, to Jesus Christ, the Prince of God.

There are many parallels between the history of Israel and the history of Jesus Christ.

-Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.  He fasted 40 days and nights Mt 4:1, 2

Jesus resisted all temptation by quoting Deuteronomy given to the Israelites after their wilderness experience.

Jesus repeated the history of Israel point by point and succeeded where they failed.

Is 42:1-3 fulfilled by Gods servant, Jesus Christ Mt 12:16-20
