Unless one is born of the water and spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God - John 3:5

Baptism and the receiving of the Holy Spirit go together:

Repent and let each one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit - Acts 2:38

The significance of Baptism

Baptized into His death - Romans 6:30

we were all baptized into one body - 1 Corinthians 12:13

For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ - Galatians 3:27

There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called in one hope of your calling; one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in all.

Ephesians 4:4-5

buried with Him in baptism, in which you were raised with Him through faith in the working of God, who raised the dead.   Colossians 2:12

in the days of  Noah, while the ark was being prepared, in which a few, that is, eight souls, were saved through water. - 1 Peter 3:20

There is also an antitype which now saves us baptism (not the removal of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God), through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, who has gone into heavenand is at the right hand of God. -

1 Peter 3:21, 22
